The Gurdon Junior Go-Devils ended their 2007 season with bang on Tuesday, Oct. 30, defeating the Prescott Curley Cubs 44-12 at Go-Devil Stadium in Gurdon.

The Curley Cubs came into the game as the conference title already in hand, but the title did not help them overpower the Junior Go-Devils in a game that, at moments, resembled the Gurdon-Prescott senior high game which happened earlier in the year.

The Go-Devils scored during the first drive of the game, moving the ball 52 yards down the field in just over two minutes.

Keon Holliman got the Junior Devils off to a big start picking up a first down on the first play from scrimmage, picking up 10 yards to the 42 yard line of Prescott.

The Junior Go-Devils continued their strong drive, with Darius Bailey picking up two consecutive first downs at the 30 and 16 yard lines.

Michael Henderson carried the ball eight yards, and Holliman picked up the first down at the four.

Henderson took the ball into the end zone for the touchdown. Bailey made it in for the two point conversion, and the Go-Devils took the early lead with the score at 8-0.

Prescott couldnt make much out of its first possession of the game. The Curley Cubs found themselves at fourth and four and decided to go for the first down, however, an off-sides call on the Cubs set them back to fourth and nine.

The ensuing punt sailed down to the 17 yard line of the Go-Devils.

On first and ten, Bailey took the ball out to the 24, and Henderson picked up the first down at the 29. A holding call on Gurdon set them back to first and 16 on the next play. The first quarter ended with the Junior Devils second and two at the 31.

After Bailey picked up the first down at the 25, Holliman took the hand-off and broke several tackles making it to the three yard line.

Henderson took the ball for the final three yards, and Holliman picked up the two point conversion, bringing the score to 16-0.

The Curley Cubs luck would change for a short time as the team managed to recover an onside kick and eventually make it into the end zone from eight yards out. A two point conversion attempt was no good, and the score was 16-6.

On the return, the onside kick was recovered by the Curley Cubs at the 41. Only a few plays later, Prescott ran the ball in from 20 yards out, but a holding call against the Curley Cubs brought the ball back to the 20.

The Curley Cubss pass near the end zone was complete on the next play, and the receiver fell into the end zone for the score. The two point attempt was not successful, and the score remained 16-12.

In the second half, the Go-Devils once again turn their first possession into points. First and 10 at their own 30, Holliman ran 70 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Jared Shaver kept the ball for a successful two point conversion.

After the return, Bailey intercepted a pass from the Curley Cubs on the teams first possession of the second half. Shaver kept the ball on first and 10 and ran it in 69 yards for another touchdown. The two point conversion was not successful, and the score was 30-12.

The Curley Cubs began to show their frustrations as the Go-Devils recovered a Prescott fumble on the very next drive. The Junior Devils were not able to make anything out of the drive, coming up about two feet short of the first down after a fourth and four attempt.

The ball was turned over on down at the 36 yard line.

Prescott was stopped short of the first down on the first drive of the fourth quarter, turning the ball over at their own 45 yard line.

Henderson managed a 56 yard run for another touchdown on second and nine. Holliman made it in for the two point conversion, and the score moved out to 38-12.

The Curley Cubs seemed to have lost all hope of coming back by this point at the Junior Go-Devils picked off another Prescott pass near mid-field.

The Prescott sideline livened up briefly as a Junior Go-Devil pass was intercepted at the 25 yard line of Prescott. The Curley Cubs were unable to make anything out of the drive and turned over on down.

On second and six, Shaver made a long run into the end zone as the final buzzer sounded making the final score 44-12.

The Gurdon senior high Go-Devils wrap up the regular season on Friday night at Horatio. Because the team has received the top seed for the 7AAA conference, they will receive a bye for the first week of the state playoffs and will begin in the second round.
