With the Forest Festival over, Gurdon city workers are beginning to focus their attention on something else the citys annual Christmas light display.

According to Gurdon Recorder/Treasurer Tambra Childres, the city will once again be featured on the Arkansas Holiday Trail of Lights that begins in November. The city has been featured on the list for several years.

Many items in this years display will not be new to those who have seen it in the past, Childres said, but some items are being replaced, and a 16 foot community Christmas tree is being added.

Some of the features of the display will include the ice-skating rink scene located near the former Gurdon Times office at the corner of Second and Walnut streets. The nativity scene will be featured in the median on Main Street as one turns off of U.S. 67. Santa Claus will be waving at those entering Gurdon from his perch high atop the Shoe Box store, and the large carousel will be featured along Main Street.

Other lights are located at Gurdon City Hall and on a lot behind the Sonic Drive-In.

Childres said she is not sure where the new community Christmas tree will be located, but it should arrive soon. The tree was purchased with a grant the city received and cost $3,500.

Many of the cheaper items that have been purchased over the last few years are having to be replaced. Childres said the items just will not hold up like the more expensive items the city buys that are made for long-term use. She hopes to be able to add to the display each year.
