You cant go forward with your brakes on was the message brought to the Gurdon Rotary Club on Thursday, Nov. 1, by Rotary District Gov. Susan Aldridge.

A native of Malvern, Aldridge visited with Gurdon Rotarians as a part of her tour of the district. She updated the club on the activities of the district as well as Rotary International and encouraged the clubs support of the groups missions.

Aldridge also praised the club for the work they are doing within the Gurdon community. At a previous meeting, the club had heard a presentation from Gurdon police officer Chris Russell on the departments attempts to raise money for a drug dog. At the meeting on Thursday, the club voted to give $200 towards the dogs purchase.

I admire all that youre doing in this community, Aldridge said.

The club enjoyed several stories during Aldridges program, including one about her 85-year-ild mother who hit an emu with her silver Corvette while driving home from work.

Aldridge said it is important that the Gurdon Rotary Club continue to grow especially since it is the only service organization remaining in town. She warned the members not to think that it is impossible for the club to go under because numerous service clubs in larger cities are going defunct due to lack of interest.

The club actually grew in membership during Aldridges visit. Lisa Turner and Jeff Jackson, who have visited the club for several weeks, were officially inducted as Rotarians by Aldridge.
