Parent Center active at NES

Theres a room at Nevada Schools where its all about learning, but not all about books. Its all about kids, but parents are more than welcome, too. In fact, its called the Parent Center and the goal is to provide support, information and materials for parents and students in the Nevada School District.

Henrietta Huskey is director and she said the parent center is dedicated to parents of students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade.

Huskey said the center provides an array of teaching tools - including information on how to teach a particular topic. Parents can check out everything from flash cards to books, games to practice workbooks - all at no charge.

It could be that a child doesnt need help with a particular subject, but needs help learning how to do homework. There are materials available on that topic as well.

Huskey said theres another side to the center at Nevada.

Weve got the latest and most up-to-date parenting information, she said.

That includes materials and books on a wide variety of subjects that might impact how a student is doing overall. Subjects like how to handle divorce, death, separation and other struggles are addressed by Huskeys materials at the parent center.

The parent center is open during normal school hours and parents who cant attend during those hours are encouraged to call or to plan to visit during a regular monthly meeting. At those meetings, there are typically snacks, crafts and a time for parents to intermingle.
