Wolves howl while Knights toppleBy Scoop AllsportsPublished Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in the Nevada County Picayune The Prescott Curley Wolves set the tone for the night early by taking the opening kick-off 90 yards to set up the first of nine touchdowns for the night. Senior Jordan Banks was good on seven of eight extra point attempts with eight players scoring nine touchdowns as the offense amassed 513 total yards. The defense held Centerpoint to 369 total yards, with zero yards passing in the second half. After the long return, it only took DeMarcus Collier one play and 4 yards to score. The usually dead-eye Banks missed on his first attempt (this would not happen again on this night), and Prescott led 6-0. Centerpoint took over after a good return to their 28-yard line and promptly marched the length of the field in six plays capped by a 33-yard touchdown pass to tie the score with 8:34 to play in the first quarter. The extra point was good, and the Knights led 6-7. Centerpoint was not done. The kick-off resembled a pitching wedge, and Centerpoint recovered. However, the Curley Wolf defense did not break this time, and forced the ball over on downs after four plays. Prescott took over and promptly went to the air as Termaine Henderson hit Kalin Hall for a 27-yard again to the 19-yard line. Two plays later and a delay of game penalty put the ball on the Centerpoint 11-yard line as Collier scrambled in the second score of the night. Banks was good, and Prescott took back the lead 13-7 with 5:31 to play the first quarter. Centerpoint was pinned very deep on the ensuing kick-off, and could only manage three plays before attempting a punt. Prescott blocked the kick and took over on the Centerpoint 13-yard line. On the next play, Henderson hit B.J. Haynie for a 13-yard strike and Prescott scored again with 3:28 to play in the quarter. Banks was good, and Prescott had a 20-7 lead. They would not lose the lead again. Centerpoint got the kick-off back to their 30-yard line and began with the bread and butter play for a wing-T offense. Runs up the middle are disguised as counters, and become very hard to react to (think back to the McGhee game in 1999). Seven plays into the drive, Centerpoint scored a 21-yard scamper. The extra point was good, and Prescott remained in the lead as the first quarter ended, 20-14. The second quarter opened with Prescott in the Wild Wolf formation and multiple quarter backs. Collier, Haynie and Travaro Coulter each took snaps in the Wolf package. On second and 15, Henderson hit Micah McCoy for the 20-yard touchdown. Banks was good again, and Prescott extended their lead to 27-14 with 9:19 to play. Centerpoint could not mount a serious scoring threat and ended up punting after the Curley Wolf defense only allowed four plays. Prescott took over on their 48-yard line and promptly moved down the field. Henderson hit Tony Gillard for a completion to the 8-yard line, and then Ivan Young to the 2. After a sack, fullback Rashad Blakely bulled his way in from the 5-yard line for the last score of the half with 5:57 to play. Banks was good, and Prescott mounted a 34-14 lead. Centerpoint must have not been intimidated by the rambling Curley Wolves, as they took the opening kick-off from the 24-yard line, and marched it down the field for a clock eating 76-yard, 14-play drive to score a touchdown. The extra point was no good, and with 5:05 to play in the third quarter, Prescott led 34-20. Prescotts first drive of the third quarter started from their 47-yard line, Henderson hitting Haynie for a first down to the Centerpoint 48. Collier ran the Wolf package for two more plays ending it with a hand off to Chris Anderson for a 45-yard touchdown dash (anytime Anderson runs, its a dash) for Prescotts only score of the third period. Banks was good, and with 3:10 to play in the third, Prescott led 40-20. Centerpoint could not muster the same magic on this drive as it stalled out after six plays. Prescott recovered a fumble on their 44-yard line, and Henderson hit Jermaine Henderson for a 56-yard touchdown pass. Banks was good, and Prescott led 47-20 with 11:34 to play in the fourth quarter. On Centerpoints next possession, they found more of the magic from earlier, and marched eight plays, covering 50 yards and taking three and a half minutes off of the clock. The 2-yard run was good for a touchdown, as was the extra point, and Centerpoint had scored their last points of the night to trail Prescott 48-27 with 8:07 remaining in the game. Prescott took over on their 25-yard line for the next drive. It really was not a drive so much as a flight. Jordan Williamson hit Gavin McCauley for a 75-yard touch down that only took one minute off of the clock. Hall ran in for the two point conversion, and Prescott led 56-27 with 7:07 remaining in the game. Centerpoint could only muster four plays before punting to Prescott as C.J. Smith finished off the night with a 37-yard race to the end zone for the last score of the game. Banks was good, and Prescott took a 63-27 lead with 4:03 to play. The mercy rule kicked in, and the game ended rather quickly from that point. This writer must give a shout out to offensive/defensive lineman Jake Norwood for being such an iron man on the field. He was in on offense and hardly ever came out on defense. I know other players play two ways, but they are built for speed, where as Norwood is built for making holes or plugging holes in the trenches. Well done Mr. Norwood. Prescott will host Fouke this Friday in the homecoming game, finishing the regular season at home on the following Thursday against Magnet Cove.
