Rev. Joseph Geno

Rev. S. Joseph Geno, 80, of Hope, died Sept. 23, 2007, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.

He was born July 28, 1927, in Bridgeton, New Jersey to Dominic and Restituta Rachel Bataglia Geno. He was a retired pastor, music minister and teacher. He attended Central Bible College and later married Dorothy Bernet and returned to Hope. They lived in a tiny a tiny apartment next to the church. He was ordained into the Assemblies of God Ministries in 1950, was an associate minister at a church in Marshall, Mo., and served missionary approved by the A.G. headquarters, during 1952 to 1955, starting churches in Pompei and Sorento, Italy, and became fluent in Italian. He was a former pastor and minister of music of Southside Assembly of God Church in Hope; former radio host for Gospel Request Time on KXAR of Hope; worked for Rev. John Polizzi, 1971-1980; taught high school Bible courses and music lessons, Grand Prairie, Texas. Upon his return to Hope, he worked at Harvest Foods. In 1991, he moved with his wife, Dorothy, to Beloit, Wisc., to be near his daughter and his grandchildren. After her death, he met and married Carol Yoh on Oct. 21, 1995, and they returned to Hope shortly thereafter where he offered music lessons, his jail ministries, began a Dial-A-Prayer ministries, and became involved in both the Hope and Prescott Assembly of God Churches. He had a great love for gardening and sharing his homegrown produce. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Pompei, Italy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Bernet Geno, who died in 1995; one brother, Frank Geno Sr.; and one sister, Anna Geno.

His survivors include his wife of 11 years, Carol Geno of Hope; one daughter, Gloria Geno Stout and Robert H. Martin of Beloit, Wis.; two grandchildren, Sarah Jane Brunson Thomas and Jamie of Beloit, Ill., and Emily Ann Brunson of Beloit, Wis.; and four great-grandchildren, Tristan, Shalom, Ian and Vance.

The funeral service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Chapel of Hope, with Revs. B.J. Smith and Edwin W. Hancock officiating. The burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hope. Arrangements were by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.
