Doris RogersPublished Wednesday, September 26, 2007 in the Gurdon TimesDoris Christine Webb Rogers, 88, died Monday, September, 17, 2007, in Conway. Although she had lived in Conway since 1998, first in Trillium Park Retirement Residence and, finally, in Saint Andrews Place Nursing Home, she had been a resident of Gurdon, for most of her life. She was born in Gurdon on March 25, 1919, and graduated from Gurdon High School as Valedictorian of her class in 1936. For most of her life she was a dedicated homemaker while serving as a substitute teacher in the Gurdon school system. Following an illness by her husband, she went into the workplace and was employed by the Gurdon Municipal Hospital from 1966 to 1981 as a medical transcriptionist and insurance specialist. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gurdon for more than 57 years and was also a member of the Eastern Star and a Daughter of the American Revolution. Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Earl S. Rogers; her parents, Penny Hesterly and Addie Lee Webb; and her sister Pauline Webb Tucker of Shreveport, La. She is survived by two sons, Steve Rogers and wife Joan of Shreveport, La. and Bill Rogers and wife Judy of Conway; one sister, Muriel McLarty and husband James of Hope; five grandchildren, Kelli Charping of Shreveport, La., Amy Ewing and husband Hank of Edmund, Okla., Erin Rogers of and Michael Rogers, both of Fayetteville, and Ryan Kimbrell of Shreveport, La.; and three wonderful great-grandchildren, Dylan and Anna Ewing, and Caleb Charping. Visitation was Friday, Sept. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home in Gurdon. The funeral service was at Horne Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. Burial was in the Waldo City Cemetery in Waldo.
