One of four people accused in the commercial burglaries of a Rosston store has been charged.

Shana J. Haltom, 22, 140 Nevada 238, Hope, has been charged with one count of commercial burglary and one count of theft of property.

According to police records, Haltom was driving her mothers car when she and three men went to the Rosston School on July 31. The three men were reportedly attempting to steal a battery from a van in the schools parking lot. The affidavit, submitted by Nevada County Sheriffs Deputy Gary Hicks, indicated that the van belonged to the schools night watchman and that the man caught the theft in progress.

Hicks report states that the school employee called his supervisor and then went outside, armed with a broom handle, to confront the three men. They reportedly dropped the battery and a Bible and ran to the car where a woman was waiting. They left behind two cans of beer but took the keys to the van.

The watchman took the license number of the car and turned that information over to police. The car was registered to a Blevins woman who had moved. Police tracked her down and she told them that her daughter, Shana Haltom, was driving the car. Police then went to Haltoms place of employment in Hope and she agreed to go to the Nevada County Sheriffs Office later that day but never showed up, according to Hicks report.

Haltom was arrested on Aug. 13 and reportedly confessed that she was at the school and provided the names of the three men with her. Those names were listed in the court records but charges have not yet been filed against any of them.

According to information filed by NCSO Chief Deputy Wayne Kissleburg, Halton also confessed to involvement in the burglary of Barrs Junction at Rosston. Someone broke into the store and took about $700 worth of cigarettes.
