Nevada County Fair kicks off

The Nevada County Fair is slated to begin this week. The fair parade will be held on Sept. 11, prompting the 2007 fair theme - a Salute to Heroes.

The rodeo will be held on Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the fair grounds rodeo arena. The Texarkana Quadrille and Sugar Creek Drill Team of Mean are slated to perform.

For all the little cowboys and cowgirls, the stick horse event will be held Sept. 15 . A calf scramble, mutton bustin and calf haltering will also be held. Registration starts at 5 p.m. with events slated to begin at 7 p.m.

The Bull Blast will start at 8 p.m. All events will be held at the rodeo grounds at the Nevada County Fair.

The fair parade will be held Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. The parade will go along the normal route, along Olive Street to East Elm, across the tracks and will turn on West Third, ending at the Prescott-Nevada County Library. For fair entry information, call Pat McCullough at 887-2004 or pick up an entry form at the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce. In case of rain, the parade will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, beginning at 6 p.m.

The Chamber will sponsor a community coffee on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. at the chamber office. Everyone is invited to that event.

The midway will open nightly beginning Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. The midway rides will open at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.

For those who plan to enter arts, crafts, flowers and other items, the entry times range from Sept. 7 through Sept. 11. School arts, Crafts and photography will only be taken on Sept. 7 from 2-4 p.m. All other arts, crafts, photography, baked goods, quilts, household articles, food preservation, fall gardens, field crops and furniture may be entered on Sept. 10 from 3-6 p.m. or on Sept. 11 from 7:30-10 p.m. Flower show entries will be taken during the Sept. 11 registration hours.

Educational and commercial booths should be set up between 3 and 6 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the Stewart Building.

All items must be picked up on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Poultry and rabbits can be entered on Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 3-6 p.m. Cattle, swine, sheep and goats can be entered on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from noon to 8 p.m.

The livestock premium sale will be Thursday, Sept. 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Livestock will be released for pickup at 9 p.m. Sept. 15.

The fair queen beauty pageant will be held Thursday, Sept. 13, and Saturday, Sept. 15. On Thursday, contestants for the Baby Miss (up to 24 months), Tiny Miss (2-3 year olds), Little Miss (4-5 year olds) and Petite Miss (6-7 year olds) will be judged. The contestants for the Young Miss (8-10 year olds), Junior Miss (11-12 year olds), Teen Miss (12-15 year olds) and Fair Queen (16-21 year olds) will be judged at 6 p.m. Sept. 15.
