Jerry PurifoyPublished Wednesday, August 1, 2007 in the Gurdon TimesJerry Larry Purifoy of Gurdon went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, family and loved ones on July 30, 2007. He was a member of Whelen Springs Baptist Church. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Purifoy; father- and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Boyett; brothers, Alvin Purifoy, Bob Purifoy and Aaron Purifoy; one sister, Della Marie Lamkin; a granddaughter that he longed to play with, Morgan Purifoy. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann Purifoy; a son, Tim Purifoy of Arkadelphia; a daughter, Tammy Humphries of Jacksonville; two grandsons, Cory Humphries of Glenwood and Brady Purifoy of Arkadelphia; two granddaughters, Markett Humphries of Jacksonville and Jenna Purifoy of Arkadelphia; two great-grandsons, Ashton and Hunter Humphries of Glenwood; three sister, Sally Walker, Sharon McNiel and Cora Lamkin; and many nieces and nephews. Larry was a lifelong logger and saw its many changes. He started out logging with mules, loading billets by hand and saw it go to log cutters, Barko loaders, John Deere skidders and to cutting machines and de-limbers with air conditioners. Larry was an avid gardener, growing one hundred times more than he could ever eat. Giving vegetables to family and friends was a pleasure to him. Larry was always wanting to lend a helping hand to others. He had a love of reading and liked to share, discuss and argue his learning. His greatest of many accomplishments was being a grandpa. He took time to play, ride four wheelers, tease and aggravate all of his grandkids, and he will be greatly missed by all. A memorial service will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Purifoy, 202 Purifoy Road, Gurdon, on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
