Board OKs plan for evaluation

The Prescott School Board has decided to continue to use the psychological assessment program already in place.

The board meeting took place in the Prescott High School lobby on Tuesday, July 17.

The decision was to use the previous year's psychological educational assessment program, which is governed by the Local Education Agency. The policy calls for a $215 dollar charge per evaluation. The evaluations are psychoanalysis, administered to children who are referred by due process.

Because there were no available businesses ready to meet with Prescott, last year's program will once again be in place. The program came under fire last year because of possible conflicts between the districts person who does the referrals and the person administering the testing. The district has agreed that the referrals will now be overseen by additional district personnel.

In unrelated business, superintendent Hyacinth Deon said that lunchroom directors recommend switching the bread brand from "Flowers" to "Sara Lee" to offer a more varied and nutritious diet for the students. The board discussed the issue and decided to uphold the requests and replace last year's brand with Sara Lee. The panel decided to remain with Borden as a milk provider.

Also in the meeting, Deon's annual reports were heard and approved. In the reports it was made clear that Prescott's current student enrollment stands at 1,049, which will result in an increase from last year's income. The increase enabled Prescott to further the educational process for students, Deon said.

"We did a lot to help push our students in the right direction," Deon said. "We bought about 30 new computers for the middle school, and a few in the other schools as well. Transactions like this help us in keeping our technology and infrastructure updated."
