Local officers are investigating two commercial burglaries in Nevada County that occurred in July.

According to reports on file with the Nevada County Sheriffs Office and the Prescott Police Department, Barrs Junction at Rosston and the Broadway Restaurant in Prescott have each reported break ins.

According to a report filed by PPD K-9 Officer John Pettit, Broadway employees had discovered the theft upon arrival to work.

The break in apparently occurred late July 16 or early the next morning. According to Pettits report, a screen was cut, possibly providing access to a window. Pettit reported that its likely the suspect or suspects exited through the same window.

It appeared that the cash register was dropped out the window and when it hit the ground, it busted open, Pettit wrote in his report.

The cord and paper from the register were recovered nearby. A dime and an additional piece of paper that likely came from the register were also found.

No suspects are named in the burglary.

According to a report on file at the NCSO, officers were called to Barrs Junction near Rosston July 12. The report filed by SO Officer Gary Hicks indicates that $700 worth of cigarettes were taken during that burglary. Police have a few details, including the general type of tool used to gain entry.

There are no suspects named in that burglary as well.

Officers have offered no indication that the two thefts are related.
