A Gurdon woman is facing drug charges in Nevada County after marijuana was allegedly found in her vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to a report on file at the Prescott Police Department, Amy L. Pitchford, 22, of 215 W. Walnut Loop, who was the driver of the vehicle, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance over one ounce, possession with intent to deliver and careless driving. Her passenger, Raymond L. Jones, 22, of 2802 Highway 26, Delight, was charged with possession of a controlled substance over one ounce and possession with intent to deliver.

The report indicates that on July 12, a Prescott police officer stopped the vehicle Pitchford was driving after it traveled straight trough an intersection from the turning lane. The officer states that upon approaching the drivers side of the vehicle to make contact with the driver, the window was rolled down, and he smelled an odor he believed to be marijuana. Both occupants were checked for valid drivers licenses and outstanding warrants. Warrants were found on file for Jones.

After Jones was arrested for the warrants, the report states that Pitchford gave officers permission to search her vehicle. Sticking out from under the drivers seat was a one quart plastic bag containing a leafy substance believed to be marijuana, according to the report.

Other officers were called to the scene, and the vehicle was searched more thoroughly.

Pitchford and Jones were both taken to the Nevada County jail where the report indicates both claimed ownership of the drugs.
