Doris Avery

Mr. Doris Edgar Avery, 93, of Taylor, formerly of Prescott, died Monday, July 9, 2007, in Regency Health Care Center in Taylor, Mich.

He was born in Prescott on June 7, 1914, to Edgar Vincent and Nellie Mae Harris Avery. He served with the United States Army Air Corp and retired with 23 years of service with the Air Force and also retired from Arkla Gas Co. Village in Emmet. He was a member of the Church of Christ and former secretary of the Lions Club.

He preceded in death by his first wife, Reatha Watson Avery; his second wife, Anna May Avery; one brother; and one sister.

His survivors include two daughters, Suzette Pitman and Robert of Taylor, and Ann McBride and Dennis of Washington; one brother, Alton Avery and Dorothy of El Dorado; one sister, Marie Cromer of Blevins; five grandchildren, Cynthia Richardson and Bill, Jeff McBride and Jamie, Jason Pitman, Jared McBride and Casey, and Robyn Pitman; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 14, at Midway United Methodist Church in Prescott, with Mr. Robert Pitman officiating. Burial was in Midway Cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements were by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.

The family received friends Friday, July 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
