Time to catch up - on sports!By Allan Ford - Picayune Intern WriterPublished Wednesday, July 18, 2007 in the Nevada County Picayune A short while after landing my internship at the Nevada County Picayune, I decided to do a little studying on the city of Prescott. Of course, I didnt find much but with me being from Arkadelphia, I guess there isnt too much I dont already know. When I drove in my first day, I was taking in the sights of the city and noticed a small restaurant on the left. I was instantly reminded of the Sundays we would visit Ward Chapel. I didnt quite remember visiting the church so much as I remembered stopping by Maxines Diner before heading back home. Needless to say I loved going to Ward Chapel. Other events during my first day reminded me of the past as well. Prescott Curley Wolves head coach, Greg Smith was the defensive coordinator for the Badgers during my sophomore and junior years. Hometown coach Brian Glass was the receivers coach. So the phone call to Smith my first day on the job was more of a reunion than an assignment. To top off my first day, I attended a forum court meeting and was introduced to many of Prescotts decision makers. Everyone seemed to share a warm and comforting, laid back attitude. Being from the outskirts of the city, where there are more tractor magazines than Home and Gardens, I felt right at home. I was greeted with hearty, strong handshakes and warm smiles. I may not go back to Henderson State with experience at a larger syndicated paper. But in the grand scheme of life, the memories Ill make in Prescott will be well worth my time.
