A Prescott man who was being investigated for theft of property has also been charged with drug charges.

Stephen C. Black, 18, 239 W. First St. N., has been charged with commercial burglary, theft of property valued between $500 and $2,500, manufacture of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to records on file with the Nevada County Circuit Clerk, officers with the Prescott Police Department were called to a local business on May 31 for a reported theft. A 32-caliber automatic, CB radio and other items were listed as missing by the business owner. An employee reportedly told police that Black had been in the building moments before some of the items went missing.

According to the court report, officers discovered that Black had told a friend hed given his mother a pistol for Mothers Day.

Officers put the information together and were granted a search warrant for Blacks apartment. It was apparently during that search that police discovered an illegal substance in a closet.

While searching the apartment, a tan planter with a green leafy substance was found in a closet with a white lamp turned on for light on the plants, the affidavit states.

According to an affidavit signed by PPD Detective David Thomason, officers also found a CB and a 32-caliber bullet during their search.
