Mary HughesPublished Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in the Gurdon TimesMary Edyth (Jane) Hughes, 102, of Okolona, died July 2, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing at Prescott. She was born January 8, 1905, in Okolona, the daughter of the late Henry Beecher and Mollie Dickey Hughes. She was trained in nursing, and dedicated her life to taking care of her widowed mother. She was a member of the First Christian Church where in years past she also played the piano. She was also a member of the Benjamin Culp Chapter of the DAR. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harmon B. Hughes, and two sisters, Ruth Erin Harris and Myrna Rose Mauldin. Survivors include three nephews, Darwin Harris of Oran, MO, Harvey Mauldin of Portland, TX, and Richard Mauldin of Hot Springs Village, and a host of great nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held Saturday, July 7, at Ruggles Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia at 1:30 pm with Pastor Lankford Moore officiating and others sharing a word. Burial was at Rome Cemetery near Okolona, Arkansas. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the funeral home. The online guest register is available at www.ruggleswilcox.com.
