Published Wednesday, March 10, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneBLEVINS 14 Blevins put it on the Wolves in game three on Monday, March 1, with a 14-1 score. This game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. The Hornets stung Yates for 15 hits and two homers as Yates went down for the second time this season. Blevins opened the game with three runs in the top of the first on an error, a hit batter and a walk. A single drove in two runs, while a sacrifice fly accounted for the third. The Wolves retaliated in the bottom with their lone score as Bullock walked. Ottis Harris took Bullock's place on the base paths, getting to third on wild pitches and scoring on a balk. In the top of the second the Hornets swarmed for six more runs to take a 7-1 lead. The runs came on four straight singles after a one-out error. The Hornets added a pair in the third on three singles, with another run in the fourth on a pair of one-baggers. Yates was hammered in the fifth giving up two doubles, twin homers and a single. Moore went the distance for Blevins, giving up two hits, walking four and fanning nine. Bullock and Morman accounted for Prescott's offense. The Hornets took the jv game 5-1.
