Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, September 22, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

The weather has been just wonderful, as it has been cooler. One would think that the students would really enjoy the change, but for many at CMS we hear "I am freezing." Can you imagine? They have been reminded to bring a jacket or a long sleeve shirt, but they seem to forget.

Wednesday, the 15th, 13 students and four faculty members met for meet you at the pole' and enjoyed the Bible reading and prayer time. The orange juice, milk and doughnuts were simply delicious. Special thanks to Jill Plyler, Taylor Pace, Bonnie Ross and Rusty Ross for a job well done. A big thanks to those students who had to get up early to be at the flag pole by 7:00 a.m.

We are excited just knowing that our junior high team won a big game this week. If pep rallies help, then they had to be ready for that game. Those cheerleaders keep things "rocking" during the rallies.

Several parents, grandparents, relatives and friends of several students have been attending the rallies and we appreciate your attendance more than you can know. The invitation is extended to you also. If you have never been to one of our pep rallies, please try to attend one and feel the excitement of Go-Devil spirit at its best. Just call 353-4311 to find out the time for the next one.

The junior high cheerleaders are selling Gurdon Devils custom throws. They are 100% cotton, jacquard woven in the U.S.A., pre-shrunk, color fast and machine washable. Each is about 48x67 inches and fringed on all four sides, practical and affordable. The design captures the spirit of the Gurdon Devils with the depiction of the school mascot. Get some Christmas shopping done early, as these are only $35. If you are interested in this memory throw, call Linda Bullard at 353-4311.

Lacey Jester was named cheerleader for the week and Marcel Johnson was named eighth grade football player for the week. Good job!

Progress reports were sent home Thursday. It is difficult to realize that we are in the mid-nine-week period already.

Plans are being made for the fall carnival to be held October 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. Mark your calendar as you can expect to have a good time and remember that all proceeds go to the accelerated reading classes so that more library books can be purchased for that program.

Several of our students showed their animals at the Clark County Fair. That takes a lot of dedication to get up and take care of their animals and get ready to come to school. Hope you made it to the fair and enjoyed seeing the accomplishments of the students.

Be sure to send those recipes to Bonnie Childres or take it to Billy Wells to help with the cookbook being planned to be sold at the Forest Festival to help with the save the picture fund.

Stay in touch with us, and thanks for the interest as we make those Classy Moments at CMS.
