On my mindBy Jeremy LangleyPublished Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in the Gurdon Times Well, its been kind of slow around town lately. With school out it seems like many have gone on vacation or are simply staying indoors. Ive been making my rounds as usual. I like to drive through the neighborhoods to see what is going on. I stop, from time to time, to take a picture if I see someone doing something particularly interesting. My recent trips through Gurdons neighborhoods have revealed very little newsworthy shots. But Ive noticed some other things. So Im sharing these random thoughts on summer in Gurdon: People around here like to fish. I think Ive said this before, but there is seldom a day when there are not people on Gurdon Lake with their line and pole. Ill have to admit that right before I sat down to write this, I made a pass through the park, and both the park and lake were empty. Hey, thats just a one time thing, right? Its hot. That might be an understatement. Dont get me wrong, I do not believe in global warming. Its gotten this hot every year that I can remember. After all, it hasnt hit the 100 degree mark yet. Ill keep an eye on the temperature across the street at the bank. One thing Ive noticed while driving around town is that older people seem to mow their yards with push mowers while younger people use riding mowers. There seems to be something wrong with this picture. I know, this is random, but it doesnt make sense to me. Yes, I use a riding mower for most of my yard work. There are only four months until the Gurdon Forest Festival. I wonder how the planning is going on that. Ive heard that there is some preliminary work going into finding another act to come in and put on a concert during the festival. Jody Evans was a hit last year. I wonder who might come in this year. I guess only time will tell. Your story ideas are always welcome. I love to write stories about interesting people who have interesting stories to tell. If you know of someone around Gurdon, Okolona, Curtis or Whelen Springs that has a story to tell, let me know. You can call the office at 353-4482 or email me at jeremyalangley@yahoo.com. Thats about all of the random thoughts I can think of for now. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
