Potlatch denies pending layoffBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in the Nevada County Picayune Officials with the Prescott Potlatch Corporation say theres no truth to the rumor that Potlatch is planning a general layoff. According to Potlatch media contact Matt Van Vleet, there are no plans for a shut-down, either plant wide or for maintenance. The actual market is looking pretty good, Van Vleet said during a telephone interview May 24. The facility was closed for a month in 2006 with officials at that time citing poor market conditions. That layoff proved to be temporary though Potlatch did some reorganization that resulted in the elimination of jobs at other locations. Van Vleet said Potlatch occasionally closes for maintenance, but said there are none scheduled for the Prescott facility at the current time.
