Chlois NewmanPublished Wednesday, May 23, 2007 in the Nevada County PicayuneMrs. Chlois Cummings Newman, 93, of Prescott, died after a lengthy illness Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope. She was born Nov. 4, 1913, in Farmerville, La., to Genie and Sally Mackie Wynne Cummings. She graduated from Draughn Business College and had such great penmanship she then went to work as a secretary for former Sen. J. William Fulbright. She then retired with more than 40 years with civil service having worked in San Antonio, Texas, Chennault AFB in Lake Charles, La., Blytheville AFV in Blytheville and Little Rock AFB in Jacksonville. She was a member of Liberty Church of the Nazarene in Prescott, member of National Association of Federal Employees club and Prescott Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Woodrow Newman; two brothers, Brooks and Hambric Cummings; and one niece, Christi Cummings. She is survived by one brother, Hoyt Eugene Cummings of Prescott; one sister, Grady Faye Greta Davis McCaskill of Prescott; two nieces, Nancy Stockton and Debbie Brannan, both of Prescott; three nephews, Jeff Davis of Camden, Brooks Cummings Jr. of Palm Beach, Calif., and Pat Cummings of Cambodia; one great-niece and four great-nephews, Susie and Andy, Matt, Clint and Todd. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with the Revs. Gerald Alexander, Vern Stinson and Art Minard officiating. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery in the Redland Community near Prescott. The family received friends Monday, May 21, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home ins Prescott.
