Owner of alleged 'aggressive' dogBy Jeremy LangleyPublished Wednesday, May 16, 2007 in the Gurdon Times A Gurdon woman will appear in court after her dog acted violently towards neighborhood children. Summer Ellis, 20, of 604 Beech Street, was issued a citation for violation of the citys leash law by Gurdon Officer Jay Smithpeters and Animal Control Officer Matt Dickerson. The citation was issued after police were called to a residence near Ellis due to complaints about the dog being aggressive towards children, according to a report on file at the Gurdon Police Department. A neighbor told police that the tan pit bull belonging to Ellis had been chasing her children. While at the residence, Smithpeters report indicates that he witnessed the dog chase a child riding bicycle in the area. He noted that the dog was growling and acting aggressive. The report also indicates that the mail carrier for the neighborhood was nearly bit by the dog recently. Upon confronting Ellis, the report indicates that Smithpeters was told the dog is usually kept in a pen in the back yard. The pen, however, is not tall enough to keep the dog contained. Ellis has reportedly promised to keep the dog indoors until the situation is settled. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
