Rosston Buys Insurance For LuckBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, March 10, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Rosston Water Superintendent J.D. Luck now has insurance through the city. The Rosston City Council, at its regular monthly meeting Thursday, March 4, selected a policy with Alliance for Luck as it was a better deal with better coverage. Under Alliance's Celtic Individual Plan the policy is an 80-20 split, with Luck having the freedom to use the doctor of his choice. Doctor visits, hospitalization and surgical procedures are covered 80-20 up to $5,000 and 100 percent by the company thereafter. The policy also has a $50 deductible for emergency room visits and a $500 supplemental accident coverage. It will pay preventative care coverage of 100 percent up to $200 annually, along with $50 per year for routine eye exams. The policy's drug card pays $10 for generic brands and $20 on name brand medicines. The board examined three companies before going with Alliance. Luck will pay $70 per month on the policy, with the city picking up the remaining $235. Luck and Scott Lowe, both members of the Rosston Volunteer Fire Department, do not have hand held radios. The council was informed the radios cost about $450 each, but the city can purchase five at a time and get them for $390 apiece. Councilman Randy Goodeau told the other members of the panel he's used this type of radio for two years with no problems. In an effort to raise money to help pay for these radios, chances are being sold on a shotgun. The city will make up the difference. Rosston Mayor Lewis Jackson said there are 12 members of the VFD at this time, and the city needs to limit the number of firemen it has as the equipment is expensive. Goodeau suggested holding the line at a dozen as the city already has outfitted these men. He suggested not adding new firemen until one of the current ones leaves or retires. Jackson said the city is still looking for a new firetruck for the VFD. The money to buy the truck will come from Act 833 money when a suitable one can be found. The city will also apply for a credit card. This card will be kept in a central location and can only be used when a city employee has business outside Rosston. This, Jackson said, will keep the city from having to reimburse them for out of town travel, meals and gasoline. Goodeau said the card will also provide a monthly itemized record of what has been spent. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
