On my mind: Some things just don't make sense

I receive a lot of e-mails, and Ido mean quite a few. However, one which I received recently stood out to me, the gimmick it promoted just didnt quite make sense once I really got to thinking about it.

The whole point of the message was to promote a strike of sorts against the oil industry. The original writer was promoting a day on which no one would purchase gasoline. I guess the person thinks that if we dont buy any for one day, the oil giants will get some kind of message.

Heres what got me the most: the message which I received had a note from another who had passed it along which said something to the effect of "I guess well just have to gas up the day before."

Yeah, like thats going to accomplish a goal. Everyone goes in the night before, fills up, and then doesnt buy any gas on the day of the strike. Guess what, theyve still got their money.

Another thing that I dont imagine was thought out very much is the fact that the oil industry is not going to be affected by a gasoline strike which lasts for one day. People are still going to need gas, and that which is in the tank at the station has already been purchased by the station owner. The gas refiners are not going to lose anything.

Lets face it, were a nation that is hooked on gas (or more appropriately oil). Its like an addiction. We just cant get enough.

I think the president made some good suggestions back during the last State of the Union. He discussed things like cutting gas consumption by huge percentages in 20 years. He was criticized by some of the people who usually tout those positions themselves. I think they were just jealous because they didnt come up with the idea.

But Im not here to discuss politics even if that is one of the things I like to do the most (on my own time).

Back to the topic email. I sometimes get as many as 100 junk emails each day. Luckily they are all routed into my junk mail folder. I hardly look at them. I just hit the delete button which clears them all. I hope theyre not important.

I dont know what Id do without my email. Some people say I am hard to get in touch with, but thats only by telephone. Most people have found that if they will simply send me an email, I will get back rather promptly because I can check email from just about anywhere, and that is sometimes a mixed blessing.

Since Im so off topic, Ill close by saying that I am not taking part in the gas strike of 2007. It just doesnt make that much sense to me.
