Cathy Janes will be principal at McRae Middle School beginning in the 2007-08 school year.

The decision was one of several made by the Prescott School Board during a special meeting called by the board April 26.

Janes is the current federal programs coordinator for the district and assistant principal at Prescott Elementary School.

Janes will replace Jamye Barnes as principal. Barnes announced her retirement earlier this month, effective at the end of the current school year.

Prescott Superintendent Hyacinth Deon said a committee was established to select a candidate to fill Barnes position.

We posted the job and we interviewed the people who were interested from within the district, Deon said.

She said Janes emerged as the front-runner with the interview committee.

Janes has been with the district for three years.

Shes been an enormous asses to my school and she will be sadly missed, said PES principal Janet Gordon.

Shes a tremendous asset to the district and were lucky to have her, Deon said.

Deon said Janes former position will be advertised and the search for a federal programs coordinator and PES assistant principal will begin soon.

The board also approved two additional transfers within the district.
