On my mind

Its great living in a small town. I personally am a fan of the small town life.

More than just living in a small town, I like covering small town news. Thats why I like Gurdon so much. This job helps me to get to know the people I cover in a way that I could not do if I worked for a larger newspaper, say one that covers the entire state.

Every week, I enjoy attending the Gurdon Rotary Club meetings. Youd be surprised how informative some of the meetings are. Although I am not a member of the club, I am welcomed in as one of them.

Another thing I do each week is make visits to the schools. Every time I walk in, I automatically lose my given name. Until I leave I am simply known as the newspaper man.

Its a fun job, but we cant be everywhere. Because of that fact, we welcome anyone who wants to submit news items or photos of events that go on around the community. Its a part of what we are  a community newspaper, so we invite the community to be involved.

If you would rather us cover your gathering, just let us know, and we will if it is at all possible. Remember, however, there are some times we just cant make a meeting or event, but we really cant be there unless we know it is going to happen.

You can call our office at 353-4482. Our regular hours are Wednesday-Friday from 1-5 p.m. I am in and out of the office all week long, but someone will be here during the above mentioned times.
