Ila CarpenterPublished Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in the Nevada County PicayuneIla Pearl Carpenter, 96, of West Monroe, La., died April 17, 2007, at the Glenwood Hospital in West Monroe. She was born Jan 29, 1911, in Sturgeon, Mo., to the late Rufus and Lerlie Hawkins Gordon. She was a retired elementary school teacher for Nevada Public Schools. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Silas Carpenter; one son, Harold Dwight Carpenter; three brothers, Dillard, Rozier and Bertha Gordon; and one son-in-law, Dr. Fred Bennet Jr. Survivors include one daughter, Alice Carpenter Bennet of West Monroe, La.; one daughter-in-law, Sue Forsythe Carpenter of Camden; grandchildren, Allison Bennett of Plano, Texas, Frank Bennet and Fred Bennet, both of West Monroe, La., Evelyn Carpenter of Camden and Martin Carpenter of Magnolia; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and loveable companions, Tiger and Annie. Funeral services were Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at Willisville Church of Christ with Chris May officiating. Burial followed at Willisville Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., of Magnolia. Visitation was Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at Willisville Church of Christ. Pallbearers were Danny Gordon, Ronnie Hicks, Charles Long, James Gibson, Kabin Stone, David Beard, James Pennington and Bobby Walthall. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Carpenter, Jack House, Jim Butler, Denver Carpenter, Gaylon Waters, Paul Bailey Jr., Dale York and male members of the Willisville Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hesed Ministries, P.O. Box 797483, Dallas, TX 75379.
