The view from Wendy's World: Gather up those photos!

Most folks who are faithful readers of this column know some important things about me.

1. Im always looking for a reason to celebrate something, hence Im always aware of upcoming holidays (regardless of how obscure).

2. I cant stand it when the window at the front of the Picayune office is naked.

3. Im full of Grand Ideas (though thats not the name some people give them).

There are Easter bunnies in the window and its time for them to go. So I began looking for a new holiday theme and came up with a Grand Idea.

Mothers Day is in May. Fathers Day is in June. And Best Friends Day is somewhere in the middle of the two.

Seldom a day passes that I dont miss my parents. I was an afterthought. My parents had two boys who were all but grown and gone from home when I came along. Im closer in age to my nephews than my brothers.

There were some drawbacks, I think. But there were also some perks. It was rather like being raised by grandparents. They were all mellow and easy with me, just like with the grandkids.

Spoiled? Absolutely, totally and completely.

I counted my mom among my best friends of all times. Sure, we argued some and I can remember a stretch of time as a teenager that I wasnt at all sure wed survive, but we did. And looking back on my life is cause for plenty of smiles.

Ive said all that to explain how the latest Grand Idea came to be.

I dont think Im alone in my view of my parents, and Im going to offer you - my faithful readers - the chance to share some of your own memories.

Im looking for photos that exemplify your relationship with your family. Parents are welcome, but other photos are welcome as well. Maybe its you with your parents on vacation in Paris or on a camping trip on the Little Missouri. Maybe its a shot of you and your brother when your mom caught you painting the kitchen cabinets with mustard. Maybe its that posed shot at a studio. Youre the only one who can judge, so choose your best shot (or two).

As is always the case when we post photos in the Picayune window, please dont bring your only original photo. Paper copies or computer printouts are fine. Attach a piece of paper and identify the folks in the photo. Remember to include the relationship - parents, grandparents, brother, sister or whatever the case may be. Feel free to drop in or call us for more information.

Well keep accepting photos through the end of the month. Well keep them posted until sometime in early June - at which time Ill be searching for the next Grand Idea.
