About 65 senior citizens were on hand for the annual Easter party at the Gurdon Senior Adult Activity Center on Friday, April 6.

Those in attendance enjoyed live music, lunch and door prizes.

One thing that was not a part of the party this year was the traditional Easter had and basket competition.

According to center director Royce Ann Barbaree, the seniors decided not to hold the traditional competition this year. Despite the lack of a competition, a few ladies still brought their hats.

Barbaree said the celebration actually began on Wednesday when a group traveled to the Degray Lake dam for a picnic at one of the pavilions. After eating, about 125 Easter eggs filled with candy were hidden and hunted.

On Thursday, the center held an Easter egg dying party, Barbaree said. At the party 110 hard-boiled eggs were dyed. They were then used as table decorations for the party on Friday.

At the main party on Friday, Bud Gulledge, a regular at the center, entertained the crowd with old classics on the piano, Barbaree said.

Lunch was later served and door prizes were handed out.

Everybody had a really good time, she said.

Barbaree was pleased to be able to host several special guests at the event as well. Larry Cogburn, CEO of Central Arkansas Development Council; Jennifer Sander, program manager for CADC senior activity centers; Kathy Ramsey, director of CADCs technology department; Jimmy Clowers, technology assistant; and Donna Staggs, retiring secretary for Cogburn, were all in attendance.

They like it when the centers have events like this, Barbaree said.
