Gilbert McKelroy

Gilbert Ray McKelroy, 76, of Stamps, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the Magnolia Hospital in Magnolia.

He was born July 28, 1930, in Emmet. He was a retired self employed retail salesman, served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was an ordained Baptist minister.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmore and Lottie McKelroy and a stepson, John Roy Foster; and a stepgrandson.

He is survived by his wife, Jean McKelroy of Stamps; one daughter, Donna Vanni and husband Sam of Shreveport, La.; one son, Steve McKelroy and wife Glinda of Garland, Texas; one stepdaughter, LaRita Allison and husband Ken of Stamps; one stepson, Buster Foster of Baton Rouge, La.; one sister, Joy Asbill of Scurry, Texas; five granddaughters, Melissa, Ashley, Tabitha, Elizabeth and Nina; three grandsons, Brandon, Ricky and Madison; two great-granddaughters, Kateline and Madison and two great-grandsons, Andrew and Jordan.

Grave side services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 9, at the Snell Cemetery at Emmet, with Revs. Benny Dougan and Andy Hawkins officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.

Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.
