A junior baseball player has broken the Prescott Curley Wolf record for career hits.

Gavin McCauley made his 77th career hit in March, according to Prescott Head Coach Greg Smith.

Smith said the former record of 76 was held by Matthew Hodges and has been the top number for the past two or three years.

Of McCauley, Smith said, Hes a junior. Hes still got another year and a half to ad to that.

McCauleys only strength doesnt lie at the plate, according to Smith.

Defensively, his skills match, he said. He really doesnt have a weak spot in his game.

The Curley Wolf baseball team season record stood at 6-1 prior to their match-up with Gurdon on April 6 with a firm first-place conference spot. Smith said the team is working toward an excellent season.

Drew Loe is doing a great job on the mound, Smith said.

Loe, also a junior, has exhibited the skills necessary to keep the Wolves in their first-place conference spot.

Joel Hodges is another of the teams outstanding players, according to Smith. Joel is the younger brother of former record-holder Matthew Hodges.

Joel has done a tremendous job at the plate, and at pitching, Smith said.

Andy Thompson is providing team leadership from his position as catcher, according to Smith. He said Thompson recently had two runs in a single game.

Zack Otwell is another name to watch on the Curley Wolf baseball team, according to Smith. He cited Otwells leadership abilities as an important asset.

Ben Smith plays short stop and has been a vital part of the teams success, according to Coach Smith.

Ben Smith is potentially one of the best short stops in the conference, Coach Smith said.

The team has games slated for April 9 at Bismarck, April 13 at Prescott against Lafayette and Paril 16 at Prescott against Fouke. Games begin at 4:30 p.m.

We feel like this team should make it to the regional tournament, Smith said during a phone interview last week. And we feel that we should qualify for the state tournament.

Smith said its been about a decade since the Prescott Curley Wolves took a baseball team to the state playoffs.
