The 2007 chamber banquet was special on two points. First, Allene Spencer and Flo Brackman took the award as co-recipients. Next, the chamber has renamed the award to be the Lenore Dalrymple Treasure of Gold award in honor of Dalymple who epitomized the award. Dalymple died in 2006. Spencer are friends in their everyday lives. And on March 20, the two took the stage together to accept their awards. Im not usually speechless, Spencer said. Spencer went on to say that she was especially honored because the award has been renamed to honor Dalrymple. Brackman echoed the sentiment and both women said they were completely surprised by the award. Local attorney Glenn Vasser was presented as Citizen of the Year. Vasser also said he was surprised by the honor and had almost foregone attending the event. Vasser told the story of his arrival in Prescott in an old car that seemed to be on its last leg. He said they werent certain the car would make the trip, but it did. However, when they were finally in Prescott, he said the family would be staying because he didnt think the car could possibly make the return trip. Weve been here ever since. Vasser said his own career has been achieved on the shoulders of giants and thanked those who made it possible. Educators and students were also honored during the banquet. Sonic was awarded the Business of the Year award for their support of local events, including providing food for an array of activities. Scott Hagen accepted the award and the slide show following the banquet included a sketch of a renovation planned for the business. Emmet teachers unanimously voted to award the Teacher of the Year award to Mike Smith. Smith died recently and his wife accepted the award on his behalf.
