The Easter Bunny is slated to make his annual appearance in Nevada County April 7 and is expected to bring more than 2,000 eggs for the egg hunt.

Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Director Mary Godwin said the event has become a popular morning of fun for families.

Easter egg hunts will begin at 10 a.m. and those younger children - up to 2 years of age - should be at the Nevada County Fairgrounds by 9:30 in order to register. The event will be from 10 a.m. until noon with egg hunts scheduled to begin every half hour. Children will be divided by age, Godwin said. Children under 2 will hunt first, then 3-4 year olds, 5-7 year olds and 8-9 year olds.

Godwin said she expects volunteers to hide some 2,200 eggs with about 2,000 of those holding candy or a small prize. There will also be a golden egg hidden for each age division. The child who finds that egg will win a stuffed bunny.

While the egg hunt is decidedly a huge attraction, the event doesnt stop there. The entire morning can be filled with fun activities, Godwin said.

The Easter Bunny will be available for photos. Godwin said children can have their photos made with the Easter Bunny. Hard copies are $2 each and digital copies will be e-mailed free of charge.

Face painting will be $1, and those two items are the only activities with a price. Godwin said participation in all other activities is free.

The Artesian Arts League will sponsor a balloonist. This artist ties balloons into animal shapes and children will be allowed to take those balloons home with them.

Games include a ring toss, duck pond, ping-pong toss and rabbit races. Godwin said children will team up to race wind-up rabbits through a maze.

Craft activities include a coloring contest and the opportunity to decorate a paper egg.

Well also have two or three Easter and spring crafts for the children to take home, Godwin said.

The hunt and all activities will go on - even if the weather doesnt cooperate, Godwin said. If its sunny and warm, the egg hunt will be on the baseball field. Godwin said the chain link fence provides safety for the young egg hunters and a perimeter for parents to watch. Parents will be allowed inside to help the youngest group.

In case of rain, the egg hunt will be held on the stage of the Potlatch Building.

Children may arrive at the time designated for their egg hunts, or may plan to spend the entire morning working on crafts and playing games.

If they want to do all the activities, it takes the full two hours, Godwin said. Theyre very excited to see the Easter Bunny and its lots of fun to watch them run out to find the eggs.
