The arrest of two Prescott men as part of a lengthy drug investigation is a step toward lessening the impact of drugs on the citys streets, according to local law enforcement officials.

Larry D. Milner Sr., 52, 1216 Walnut St., and Larry D. Milner Jr., 25, with an address on Gee Street, were each arrested at their homes shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, March 1.

Prescott Police Chief Brian Russell said the Prescott Police Department, Nevada County Sheriffs Office and Arkansas State Police simultaneously served warrants on both homes Thursday morning. He said four were taken into custody though two women were released a short time later without charges.

Russell said officers recovered substances believed to be cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana. As of Thursday afternoon, the exact amounts of the drugs recovered was not available pending the completion of the investigation.

Both father and son were to be charged with an array of violations related to drugs and firearms, Russell said.

Eighth Judicial District Judge North Randy Wright said he presided over a first appearance for both men Thursday afternoon at the Nevada County Jail where the two are being held. Wright said he set the bond for Milner Sr. at $500,000 and the bond for Milner Jr. is set at $100,000. As of this morning, both men remained in custody.

Wright said a March 15 court date has been set for the two to appear in circuit court.

Russell listed charges expected to be pursued against the two. Milner Sr. is expected to face charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a defaced firearm and felony possession of a firearm. With regard to Milner Jr., Russell said charges will likely include possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm. Russell said the charges will be enhanced because of the proximity of the residences to a church, meaning the penalties will probably be more severe.

Russell said the culmination of this investigation was rewarding for those officers involved.

Its been a long time coming, Russell said. The people want this. One way to make (the streets) safer is to rid it of drugs.
