Banquet to feature Voice of RazorbacksBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, March 7, 2007 in the Nevada County Picayune For one night, Keith Jackson - sometimes known as the voice of the Razorbacks - will put his famous voice to work in Prescott. Jackson is slated to be the keynote speaker for the Prescott-Nevada county Chamber of Commerce banquet, slated for March 20. Chamber Director Mary Godwin said the banquet will be at 6 p.m. at McRae Middle Schools cafeteria. Tickers are on sale for $20 and may be purchased from the chamber or any chamber member. Godwin said seating is limited so its important to buy tickets early. Godwin said the banquet has traditionally been held during the week of spring break for the local schools, but said the date this year was changed to accommodate Jacksons schedule. Were doing a sports theme, she said. Tailgating with the chamber. In keeping with that theme, Jackson will present insights on his life. According to biography information provided by Jackson, he was born in Little Rock and became one of the first-round picks for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1988. He went on to play with the Miami Dolphins and the Green Bay Packers before turning his career to broadcast journalism. He has worked with TNT television, Oklahoma Sooner football radio and the Fox Sports Network before turning to the Arkansas Razorback Sports Network in 2000. The annual banquet is one of the years biggest fundraisers for the chamber, according to Godwin. Money raised during the event will help fund an array of activities throughout the year. Godwin said the banquet and speaker are just a part of the event. The chamber will also honor several people. The David Barlow family will be recognized as the 2006 Nevada County Farm Family of the Year. Others to be honored will be a secret until the moment of the announcement, Godwin said. The Treasure of Gold award will be announced as well as the Citizen of the Year. Students of the Year from all three area school districts will be recognized as well. Its a time that we thank the community for supporting the chamber throughout the year, Godwin said. The chamber will also hold an auction. Were securing items to be auctioned off, Godwin said. Godwin said the proceeds from the auction make up the majority of the profits from the nights events. Members of the banquet committee include Kay Hendrix, Janice Hill, Janet Hood, Brad Crain, Judy Duke, Carol Newton, Marcia Lasiter, Mary Godwin, Barbara Lowdermilk, Carrie Nivens, Julie Oliver, Chuck Sullivan and Lynn Vandiveer.
