Woman sentenced to jailBy Jeremy LangleyPublished Wednesday, February 28, 2007 in the Gurdon Times A Gurdon woman was sentenced to seven days in jail as a result of charges filed after she was accused of stealing water from a neighbors house. According to a police report filed with Gurdon police at the time of the incident, officers were called to residence on North 3rd Street on Saturday, Dec. 23 after the resident, Patrina Porter, reported a neighbor had pointed a gun at her and two others while they were getting water out of an outside water faucet at the neighbors house. Porter told police that her water had been turned off a few days prior to the incident and that she had attempted to obtain permission to use the neighbors faucet, the report indicates. The faucet is reportedly located about 20 yards from Porters residence. The neighbor, Taletha Heard, of 209 E. Walnut, admitted to police that she had come outside with the firearm and was upset at the time, the report states. She indicated that her house had recently been broken into, and those getting water caused her dog to bark, startling her. Heard reportedly denied pointing the handgun at any of the three getting water from her faucet. At that time Gurdon Police issued both Porter and Heard summons to appear in court so a judge could sort out the details. Porter was summonsed on one count of theft of property and Heard was summonsed on three counts of terroristic threatening. When the women appeared in court on Thursday, Feb. 15, Porter was sentenced to seven days in jail. Gurdon officers transported her to the Miller County Detention Facility in Texarkana to serve out the sentence. Heard was found not guilty of the charges against her.
