Michael SmithPublished Wednesday, February 21, 2007 in the Nevada County PicayuneMichael R. Mike Smith, 61, of Rosston, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at his home. He was born on August 3, 1945, in Hope, to Reyburn E. Smith and Dorothy Smyth Smith Broussard. He was an Air Force pilot in the Vietnam War and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1986. Shortly after that he began teaching math and science at Emmet High School in Emmet and continued teaching for more than 17 years. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary Francis Smith of Rosston; his mother, Dot S. Broussard and Paul of Rosston; one brother, Dave Smith and Beverly of Niceville, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Ruth Vinson of Hope; three close first cousins, Greg Smyth and Cheryl of Rosston, Denessa Smyth of New Boston, Texas and Teresa Fonenot of Ragley, La.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Gene Ross Gymnasium at Emmet High School in Emmet, with the Rev. Frank Henson officiating. Burial will follow in Rosston Cemetery in Rosston. Family received friends Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
