Charges filed against three Gurdon residentsBy Jeremy LangleyPublished Wednesday, February 14, 2007 in the Gurdon Times Formal charges have been filed against two Gurdon men in connection with the burglary of a local business, and unrelated charges have been filed against a Gurdon woman for aggravated assault. According to records on file in the Clark County Circuit Clerks office, Jonathan Stanley Newburn, 21, and Anthony Quinton Rateliff, 25, both of 4055 Highway 67 South, have been charged with commercial burglary and theft of property following the burglary of R&J Quick Stop, 4168 Highway 67 South, in early January. The court records indicate that a clerk arriving for work at the business on the morning after the alleged burglary found the front door ajar, and upon further inspection found two bank bags and an air conditioning unit missing. Clark County deputies were called, and the investigation began. An affidavit on file in the court records indicates that Rateliff confessed to Arkadelphia Police Department investigators while being interrogated about another burglary. Newburn was later identified as a possible suspect, and he confessed to deputies when confronted, the records state. In an unrelated incident, Kaleda Norvell, 19, of 2969 Highway 53 has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance following an incident which occurred in Arkadelphia. According to court documents, Arkadelphia police responded to a report of a group of girls fighting near the Ross Apartments on Jan. 9, and while investigating that incident discovered that a shooting had occurred earlier in the day. The shooting had previously not been reported. An affidavit in the court documents indicates that police discovered that the alleged shooter, Norvell, was at the scene of the fight and arrested her after finding a bag of what is believed to be marijuana in her vehicle. The records state that during the alleged shooting, Norvell is believed to have fired two rounds from a handgun into the air in an effort to scare the occupants of another vehicle. Norvell was released on bond from the Clark County Jail and will appear in court at a later date. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
