Red Springs EHC

President Jean Toland opened the Red Springs Extension Homemakers meeting by reading the eye opener, 'When Love and Spice Work Together, Expect a Masterpiece.'

Fourteen members met March 11 in the home of Kathryn Burchfield and answered roll call naming a generic medicine they use.

Sybil Harris, health leader, brought the program on generic medicine. She presented facts that generic prescriptions are cheaper and ask the pharmacist about filling your prescription with the generics. This applies to the OTC drugs also. Generics can save you money compared to national brand names.

Kathryn Burchfield gave the devotion about the mule who fell in an old well and survived.

In the business session, Lorece Bryant gave a report on an Area Agency on Aging meeting she attended and the things available to the residents in the county.

Memories Common Threads is the theme of the 1999 Extension Homemakers Council annual state meeting to be held in the Hot Springs Convention Center June 22-24. More information will be given later.

Betty Cook and Mary McBride made the three Clark County quilt blocks to be added to the other 74 counties' blocks. The top will be completed for the state meeting to be quilted with an old fashioned quilting bee. The finished quilt will be on display for the year 2000 meeting.

Joyce Rutherford will teach how to re-cycle blue jeans into a vest March 31.

The Clark County Quilters Guild, a special interest club, will host the Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce coffee March 31 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.

The Twin Rivers Festival is scheduled for April 9 and 10.

Mattie Talley won the door prize, and the meeting adjourned with Mary McBride reading the Nine Beatitudes for a Homemaker. The last beatitude states, "Blessed is she who preserves the sanctity of the Christian home; for hers is a sacred trust that crowns with dignity."

Jo Baldwin gave the blessing for the food and a workshop on bird houses was given in the afternoon.

The April 8 meeting will meet at the Gurdon Municipal Building with Sybil Harris and Georgia Schee as hostesses.
