Wrapping up the ValentinesBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, February 7, 2007 in the Nevada County Picayune Several area merchants are busy with preparations for Valentines Day. Long-stemmed red roses seem to be the commodity most in demand, though there are a number of other selections popular on this day set aside for sweethearts. Barbara Lowdermilk at Prescott Flowers and Gifts said shes preparing to work with several dozen roses. Well have lots of balloons, stuffed animals and candy - lots of candy, Lowdermilk said. Elana Smillie said fresh roses are also in big demand at the Pickett Fence. But Smillie said she also produces dozens of gift baskets and customized weights for balloons. Others are neutral with candy being a big seller. Smillie said she also offers tanning packages as Valentine gifts. At Effies Flowers and Gifts, Erin Clark said shes been making bows for the past two weeks in preparation of the big day. Roses, balloons and stuffed animals are at the top of Clarks requests.
