Light snow falls on areaBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, February 7, 2007 in the Nevada County Picayune Despite predictions of significant accumulations, Nevada County and the surrounding area received a light snow fall over the first night of Feb. 1. According to weather watcher Davis Benton, approximately one inch of snow fell in the Cale area. Amateur weather watchers elsewhere in the county reported similar amounts with snowfall generally lighter in the southern parts of the county. The weather wasnt enough to close school or local businesses, though some area events were postponed. The drought that has held the area in its grip appears to be at an end. Odds are that the drought conditions wont continue, Benton said, calling on his experiences with the National Weather Service. This time of year theres typically more rainfall. The snow lasted only a few hours with temperatures on Feb. 2 well into the 30s. The popular Pennsylvania groundhog reportedly didnt see his shadow, foretelling an early spring. Davis reported almost seven inches of rainfall over the month of January. He said thats about twice the normal rainfall for this time of year. The high temperature for January, according to Davis was 72 with a low of 18 degrees. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
