Potlatch lays off 6By Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, February 7, 2007 in the Nevada County Picayune Six workers of Potlatch Corporations Prescott Resource Division have been impacted by the company-wide restructuring plan. According to Lisa Stocker, public relations spokesperson for Potlatch, the companys land management division has undergone some changes in an effort to meet market demands. The layoff of the six workers comes just months after a temporary shut-down of the Potlatch lumber mill, also located in Prescott. Stocker stressed the fact that the two are separate and the layoff in the resource division is not an indicator of potential layoffs in the lumber mill. We are reorganizing our resource division, Stocker said during a telephone interview Feb. 2. We hope to adapt to new acquisitions in the existing region and to potential new regions. Stocker said the goal of the reorganization is ultimately to streamline the forestry division to meet market demands. Stocker said theres been no dramatic drops recently in the lumber market, a key concern as the company made decisions last winter regarding the continuing operation of several lumber facilities.
