Nevada County Chief Deputy Wayne Kisselburg said he first became involved in law enforcement for two reasons - it was local employment and provided an opportunity to make a positive impact on the county.

Kisselburg said hed been working construction when he first applied for a position as a law enforcement officer in 1984. With the exception of a brief time of employment with the city police, Kisselburg has been with the NC Sheriffs Office ever since.

Over those years, he became certified as a law enforcement official through the Arkansas Law Enforcement Academy. Since then, hes been through several special training programs. He said hes taken courses in criminal investigation and crime scene investigation, as well as some additional classes on enforcement of drug laws.

The criminal investigative side of law enforcement holds an appeal, Kisselburg said. He served as the countys designated criminal investigator until assuming the post of chief deputy in January.

He was born in West Texas and moved to Nevada County in the mid-1960's. He graduated Prescott High School.

Kisselburg and his wife, Jacque, have one son and one daughter and both make their homes in the county.

The point of law enforcement, Kisselburg said, is to have a positive impact. And thats what keeps him on the job.

I stay because I hope Im making a difference in this community, he said.

Kisselburg cited the changes that are happening under the new administration and said hes excited to be part of the programs currently being kicked off. Of special interest, according to Kisselburg, is a database being created to help law enforcement better track the older citizens of the community who may not have local family. That database will allow officers to have a list of people to periodically check in on. In addition, officers will have instant access to vital information about an elderly person who experiences an emergency - even if that person cant communicate.
