Eula Mae HobgoodPublished Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in the Gurdon TimesEula Mae Thomas Hobgood, died Friday, January 19, 2007, at her home in Arkadelphia. She was born Oct. 6, 1942 in Ida, La., the daughter of the late Earl and Lena Mae Thomas. She was a 1960 graduate of Lonoke High School and a 1966 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University. She was a charter member and past president of Arkadelphia Junior Auxiliary and a member and past president of PEO. She served terms on the Clark County Library Board, the Human Rights Committee of the Human Development Center and the Arkansas Nurserymans Board. She and her sister founded, co-owned and managed the Garden Gate Nursery in Arkadelphia until their retirement in 2005. She was a member and former Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church of Arkadelphia and served on pastor nominating committees. She attended many band and choir events, baseball games, horse shows, cattle shows, livestock sales and county and state fairs as a devoted wife and mother. Survivors include her husband, John M. Hobgood; one son, John M. Mac Hobgood Jr of Conway; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jason Willmon of Okolona; two brothers, Raymond Thomas of Longview, Texas and Billy Thomas of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Bette R. Baker of Arkadelphia; two grandchildren Seth and Elizabeth Lizzie Willmon. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kendall Land officiating. There will be a private burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Arkadelphia.
