Older Employees Honored This WeekPublished Wednesday, March 17, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesGurdon Head Start and Gurdon Senior Adult Center are honoring their older workers this week. President Clinton has proclaimed March 15-19 as National Older Worker Employment Week. The President calls America's older workers "one of our country's richest resources" and says further that "the value of their contribution to our society is immense." Naomi Brown, senior adult site manager and Lynn Johnson, Head Start coordinator, have no problem agreeing with Clinton's comments. The adult center employs Esther Thrasher and Vernessa Russey. Head Start employs Maria Flandez. Thrasher drives a van, delivering meals to house bound clients and chauffeuring for other client events. Russey works in the kitchen, assisting in the preparation of meals for senior adults, Head Start children and on Thursdays, the Rotary Club. Thrasher and Russey give their personal care and attention to all they serve. The integrity and sincerity they exhibit is evident to all who come in contact with them. Flandez is better known around town as Miss Carmen. She has been a wonderful addition to Head Start not only because of the love she gives the children, but she has the special talent of being bi-lingual. Her value to help the Spanish speaking enrolled children and their parents is boundless. All the children at Head Start know that they can find love and a sympathetic heart in Miss Carmen. Each year a special week is set aside to honor older workers. This week, March 15-19 is that special week. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
