The Prescott Curley Wolves ended the 2006 season with a second-place trophy following their loss to the Shiloh Christian Saints of Northwest Arkansas. The Wolves managed a single touchdown against the Saints, ending the season with a disappointing loss at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

The final score of 6-48 may have come as no surprise to some. Predictions early in the week had the Wolves as the underdog with the Saints expected to win by a wide margin. That said, the Saints fans were in for a rude awakening in the first moments of play when the Wolves forced a turnover without allowing the Shiloh team to score on their first possession.

Shiloh won the coin toss and Curley Wolf player Justin Marcum kicked. The Wolves stopped the Saints at the 20-yard line, then stopped them dead on the next play. With an incomplete play, the Saints kicked and the Wolves took possession.

But the Wolves werent able to make good on their first possession either. Quarterback Ben Smith passed off to Kalin Hall then to Deon Accor. The Wolves managed a first down and then took themselves to mid-field. With 35-yards to go, Prescott called an early time out. The next pass was incomplete and Smith kicked for the turnover.

Prescott tackled that first run but the Saints then made a 60-yard run for a touchdown.

The Wolves couldnt break through the Saints defense during their next possession and the next turnover put the Saints in excellent scoring position. By the end of the first quarter, Shiloh had scored four unanswered touchdowns and it took only moments into the second quarter for the Saints to make it five.

During that second quarter, the Wolves took the football to within reaching distance of a touchdown of their own. With fans screaming encouragement, the Wolves simply couldnt seem to find the openings to gain ground. Just 14 yards short of a touchdown, the Wolves scrambled for another first down and an opportunity to score. Smith did what hes done all season - held the ball and bulldozed ahead. It worked and the Wolves got two yards from the play. The Curley Wolves lost a yard on the next play but were still in position to score.

Then a false start penalty took the Wolves back five yards. The next pass was incomplete and another penalty against the Wolves forced the turnover.

The Wolves second half started much as the first. With just six minutes left to play, James Threadgill makes the Wolves only touchdown of the game. The Wolves decide to go for two, but Smith falls just short of the goal line and the Wolves end the game with a disappointing score, 6-48.

Though its easy to look at the game as the one the Prescott Curley Wolves lost this year, fans should not lose sight of the outstanding season that brought the Wolves to this point. The Curley Wolves came off a rather disappointing 2005 season to announce a 10-1 2006 season. The Wolves round out the year with a trophy marking their position as second in the 3A conference
