Plan breakfast with the Claus'sBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, December 13, 2006 in the Nevada County Picayune If you want to have the very best visit from Santa Claus, you need something to attract the Big Guys attention. Magic reindeer food is guaranteed to do just that. But where is magic reindeer food to be found? None of the local merchants are fortunate enough to carry this too-valuable commodity, but every area child can take a bag of it home following Breakfast with Santa, slated for Saturday, Dec. 16. According to Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mary Godwin, the event will include a series of fun activities ranging from food to crafts. Godwin said that anyone who wants to enjoy each of the activities should allow the full two hours. Breakfast with Santa has become an integral part of the Prescott holiday tradition. Breakfast will naturally be part of the event. Godwin said there will be sausage, biscuits, donut holes, orange juice and milk - plenty to keep the young and the young-at-heart going for a morning filled with fun activities. Children should memorize their Christmas wish lists because Santa Claus will naturally be a big part of the mornings activities. Have a keepsake photo made for $2. For those who want to put it all in writing, therell be an opportunity to write a letter to Santa. After writing out the lists, children can put the letters into an envelope and mail them. Godwin said there will also be a coloring contest, complete with prizes. Any child is invited to put their artistic abilities to work on the Christmas scenes provided. Craft opportunities will include the chance to make a Christmas card, a bracelet and a candy cane gift. Kids can take the gifts when theyre finished, making an awesome present for mom, grandma or anyone who deserves that special thought at Christmas. If it sounds like a lot to do in a single two-hour period, it is. But dont forget that its not over yet. Youngsters can still make a Christmas ornament, take time for face painting or play a round of Christmas Bingo. And dont forget the magic reindeer food. Its not that complicated, but Godwin confided that the mixture has been proven over the years. The glitter - one of the special ingredients - catches the moonlight and the attention of the reindeer pulling Santas sleigh, guaranteeing that Santa stops and that the reindeer are in no hurry to leave. Godwin said the event is open to any child, age 10 and under. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The only cost to attend is a can of food. According to Godwin, those cans will later be distributed to needy families in the area. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
