Rain Does Little Damage

In spite of all the rain Friday and Saturday, there was little damage in Clark County.

Clark County Judge Floyd "Buddy" Manning said several roads were washed out, but none were impassable with the exception of those underwater.

Monday, he said, county road crews were out filling holes with cold mix. But, Manning added, there wasn't a lot of washing effect with the storm as the rain fell steadily.

One bridge in the Vaden area was washed out, but is salvageable and will be put back in place.

Manning drove around the county Saturday and Sunday to check out the damage, but found relatively little.

"We got lucky," he said. "It rained long and hard, but ran of quickly except in the low lying places."

Locally, the underpass by City Hall was flooded, but it was never barricaded or closed off.

Still, only the brave or foolhardy would have challenged the swift flowing water at the underpass, as the current was strong enough to push a vehicle sideways.

Interestingly, with all the heavy rain, thunder and lightning, no watches or warnings were posted for the region.
