Disturbance call leads to local man's arrest

A Gurdon man was taken into police custody after allegedly attempting to break into an apartment on Crestwood Street Friday, Nov. 3.

Jay A. Marion, 19, of 1102 E. Crestwood Street Apt. 4, was arrested for third degree battery, public intoxication, resisting arrest and criminal mischief after Gurdon Police were called to the Crestwood Apartments around 1 a.m. Friday, according to a report on file at the Gurdon Police Department.

The report states that upon arrival, Officer Brandon Ellis found Edse Purifoy, 58, bleeding from his face and the back of his head. He told Ellis that Marion had broken out a window at the back of his apartment attempting to make entry into a females bedroom.

Purifoy said Marion struck him and pushed him to the sidewalk before repeatedly kicking him in the head, the report states.

Marion is reported to have confirmed Purifoys story to the police.

The report indicates that when Ellis attempted to take Marion into custody, he tried to shove the officer away. He was taken into custody and transported to the Clark County Jail.

Purifoy was transported by ambulance to Baptist Medical Center - Arkadelphia where he received treatment for his injuries.

Other incidents reported to Gurdon Police through the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 3 include a report of the coin dispenser at the Gurdon Laundromat being broken into and money being stolen on Nov. 1.

Also on Nov. 1, a resident of Miller Street reported to police that she had received a harassing phone call in which the called threatened to slap her and cursed her.
